Mickey thinks about the differences in Pete's World.

It was amazing how much was different about this parallel world. Not just the present, with Rose's dad and his nan and the zeppelins. There was a whole other history to learn, one where Guy Fawkes had succeeded in his attempt to assassinate King James and 500 years down the line, Queen Elizabeth 2nd was just a nice old lady named Liz who spent her days gardening.

Speaking of gardening, even that was different here. Somewhere in the history of Pete's World, holly had mutated and now its berries were white. Mickey had no idea how that affected the traditional Christmas colour combinations of red and green that he'd always taken for granted. Especially when you added in the fact that here, Coca-Cola had decided to use blue for Santa's outfit instead of red.

As he and Jake drove through Holland towards a factory in Germany, he was pleased to see that the tulips in Amsterdam still looked the same. A eye-catching display or pink and red and white and yellow, announcing the arrival of Spring. His nan had always had a bunch in a vase in the kitchen in his world. He thought about buying her a bunch when he got home.

That was assuming they weren't banned back in England, like poppies. For a world so similar, he was constantly surprised by the differences. Apples and oranges. Only here, they were crossed and called appanges.

Oh well. At least this world had beer.
